What about Austin, San Fran, or any of the other thousands of cities that are not Portland? Portland loves to be "first" and "special", but it is neither in this case. It's not even the biggest city to legalize it. And it didn't even legalize it, it barely put in an exception into already existing language for a small slice of rentals.

Might be the first time the Mercury is a puppet of the Hales/Airbnb PR machine, but this is not the first time a city has written laws around rentals.
