Redefining Success. Downward?

Wow, between permitting AirBnB rentals in multi-family buildings, to lying to us about their intention to require some affordable housing amongst the luxury flats in the Pearl & Waterfront... the city is a FAIL.

I have watched AirBnB hosts cheat, and developers cheat. So I decided, for once, to cheat on my taxes. I haven't paid the Arts Tax. We live in scofflaw city. I live in a neighborhood where a humble house pays twice the tax of a similar house in a close-in neighborhood. So, just for a psychic boost, I don't pay the arts tax and nothing happens.

So- I know it is a false equivalency- but I enjoy refusing to pay the arts tax. It gives me a little psychic revenge. And it goes to the heart of how our system works, People obey rules if other people are also following the rules.

Yeah- this AirBnB scofflaw behavior amplifies my feeling that Hales is this horrible progressive "green" oligarch who sticks it to the poor worse than a Republican. And, on a related note, I am really disgusted with my fellow white college educated middle class voters. What a bunch of douches we are. We just let Hales and Novick pee on our neighborhoods, but we clap like pleased babies when he gives us a bike lane. The part of the electorate that should protect others, protect our neighborhoods- we are to blame for Hales.

Sorry for my rant (weather keeps me inside). Thanks to some young reporters with actual journalistic standards who keep poking at the various messes in this city.

This city's turning Mad Headroom into a prophet! And, it's not the oft-derided Clackistanians who are doing it but the hipster and yuppie imports who are more than happy to buy a homeless person or poor Street Roots vendor overpriced sandwiches from Whole Paycheck but won't let them set up tent cities when their votes push everyone who isn't an ex-pat San Fran architect into poverty and dereliction and their presence jacks up the cost of living to ensure that even bartenders and janitors can't afford to live in a manner befitting north-of-the-border. I can't wait until I can afford a van; I'm getting the hell out of this green liberal corporate fascist polis!

Please wait...
