The Sexism Tax

Comments

The question remains: why are men being paid more in a highly competetive capitalistic system, why are not employers slashing payroll costs by hiring more women?

There's no separate minimum wage for men and women. People in crap jobs make the same crap wages. How does one focus on sexism and avoid classism?

Oh and mr. frankie above, ever hear that stupid term "mancession?" Actually, women are going further in the capitalist system for their willingness to take bad jobs for low wages. There's even a new book about it.

God, I hate how the smug indignant blogging that Ms. Mirk has fooled some influential Portland Mercury editors and Human Resources managers into thinking is journalism worthy of publishing on dead trees is so smug and indignant it can nearly make me turn against an issue that I do actively believe to be an issue of concern such as inequality in pay. Seriously, using logical fallacies large enough to be recognized by grade schoolers to reach your conclusion of "Sexism Tax" isn't even worthy of a bumper sticker, let alone worth pulping up trees older then she is to print it on.

You are all full of shit!!! Lets look at it from a logical (I know that is asking a lot of Portlandia but try to keep up here) point of view. If, as an employer, I could hire a woman to do the SAME JOB as a man for a much lower salary, why would I ever hire a man? The whole arguement seems to fall to pieces when you look at it that way and that is the problem with logical fallacies (or in this case Illogical fallacies).

My wife, who made $130K last year, (to my $60k) thinks the writers of this article (and Brad Avakian) are full of shit.

Just thought I'd let you know.
