Will this march stay safe? Hopefully it will, but every event going forward is likely to be more confrontational than the last. Cops are going to react to being pushed in front of buses the same way occupy Oakland has responded to being shot in the face. Sam's got himself a nice little powder keg here.
JUST ANOTHER REMINDER THAT YOU'LL GET A BETTER REACTION TO YOUR PROTESTS IF YOU SHOW UP IN A SUIT AND TIE. IF THAT WOMAN HAD BEEN DRESSED IN BUSINESS CASUAL, SHE COULD'VE JUST STROLLED IN. KNOW YOUR ENEMY AND SHIT.
Spot on, Graham, to a point; while I've gotten into places others couldn't just by dressing like myself (and not the typical full-time protester) it can also backfire when folks either think you're with the press (if you carry a camera/video camera) or worse, a provocateur.
I love that the union organizer is saying "We're going to hold the police commissioner accountable if any police officer or citizen gets hurt,". Really? Absolutely the Occupy Movement needs to remain peaceful, as protests all over are showing. But, shouldn't the individual officers, sergeants and the Chief be holding themselves accountable for ensuring citizens aren't hurt as well?
I wonder who will hold the city accountable for the 72-year-old retired Navy officer attacked by the police yesterday?
Oh, riot cops were in Director Park and at the Starbucks across the street, including some of the ones who attacked the Iraq War protesters back in 2003.
