Since an insurance and healthcare provider is, at a minimum, a suspect source for data on coverage, here is what I found.
The percentage of uninsured in the third quarter of 2008 was 14.4% or 43.8 million; the rate of uninsured in the first quarter of 2014 was 15.6% or 49.4 million. An increase of 1.2% or 3.8 million of the 2014 population and 5.6 million increase over the 2008 numbers. The U.S. population has added about 9 million people since 2008.
