Well, that's it for this year's First Annual Anarchist Awards. From all of us at the Academy, we wish you and your causes to be strong of voice, and just ahead of the policeman's nightstick. And we'd also like to leave you with a final thought: As a city, Portland is on the crux of massive political and economic change, and the power lies within each of us to grab the steering wheel now and then whenever she swerves off course. As Thomas Jefferson once said on the subject of activism way back in 1816, "Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day."

Or as the more recent activist John Cougar Mellencamp once put it, "You have to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything."
