To English-speaking Americans who address English-speaking Mexican Americans in broken Spanish: You walk into a taquería and order your food from someone who obviously speaks English. Yet you feel the need to speak what little Spanish you know to them. "Uno asada taco por favor." Why? Making a mockery of their language certainly doesn't make you sound intelligent. Are you trying to appear culturally aware? Savvy, maybe? You're making an ass out of yourself! The difference between you and them is they have taken the time to learn your language, and you obviously haven't taken the time to learn theirs. You are not bilingual. They are. So do them a goddamn favor and address them in English.—Anonymous
