WHO: "I play bass and scream" in Seattle hardcore band Akimbo

WHY: Akimbo plays at Meow Meow on Sunday Mar 25.

Is rock dead?

"No."

Do you have evidence?

"I'd have to say the overwhelming amount of rock that I've experienced in my short 20 years of life."

If you could go back in time to see a band in concert, who would it be?

"It would have to be an early Devo show. I spent a good summer vacation when I was about 15 with my friend, and we played video games and listened to Devo tapes all day long. Ever since then I've been a pretty big Devo fan. The answer would have been Iron Maiden, but I saw them on their last tour, so I've already seen them."

What's interesting about Akimbo?

"I think we get a huge amount of sound out of just three people. When I play I give it my all; just go apeshit."

So when you write songs, what do you aim for?

"Lately I've been on a dance-y kick. I want to have stuff that's really danceable but at the same time fits into the loud and screamy genre. Music to shake your ass to and slam your head around."

What kind of "dance-y"? Pop dance-y, or funk dance-y, or...

"Not pop dance-y; just catchy stuff. Catchy like it's got to have a hook that can get stuck in your head."

Do you have a job?

"Yeah, I work at Nintendo answering phone calls. I've been talking on the phone today from like 6:30 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon, telling people how to hook up their Nintendos. I get some pretty stupid calls. This one kid called today who was trying to get it working, but his TV was off while he was trying to hook it up."
