Microcosm Publishing 10th Birthday Party
Portland's Microcosm Publishing, one of the biggest names in the zine universe, turns 10 years old this weekend, and to celebrate, they're throwing a mammoth party all weekend long. Things start off Friday night at 6:30 and go all the way to bedtime Sunday. There are a jillion zine readings scheduled; zine-related film screenings; workshops on everything from DIY healthcare to cake making; a DIY bookstore; a sleepover party; and tables where you can buy, sell, or trade your own work! Ultramarathon Man
Despite his repeated denials, Dean Karnazes is a seriously troubled (and therefore fascinating man). As an "ultramarathoner," he runs for hundreds of miles (literally), nonstop (literally). He is known to run more than 48 straight hours. Sometimes he orders pizzas when he runs and has the delivery boy meet him on a street corner.
