I DON'T KNOW what you use it for, but for me Instagram is 95 percent about style scoping. I follow a few "humans," sure, but mostly I follow clothing designers, shops, and flea markets, and an international clutch of artists and creative types whose tastes I admire. When I peek at it at the bus stop or in my orthopedist's waiting room, I'm really just window shopping, and yes I would like to know where you procured each item in your #ootd, thanks.

Some of the people in Portland who are being the most watched—on Insta or otherwise—are hosting Privates, a cross between a naked lady party and a pop-up shop, where you can browse and buy the personal closet castoffs from some of the city's most beloved designers, retailers, and trendsetters: Pendleton's Gretchen Jones, Takara jewelry's Jen Goff, and Yo Vintage!'s Sarah Radcliffe are among them, as well as Reif designer Lindsey Reif and macramé sensei Emily Katz.

The tagline for the event is "Where stalking wardrobes gets real," so come prepared to see your local style heroes with #nofilter. Privates, 911 N Monroe, Sat June 6, noon-4 pm

Meanwhile, the grand opening of the downtown version of Backtalk is finally here! Like the original on N Mississippi, which also doubles as the headquarters of the brilliant apparel designer Alexa Stark, what's affectionately being referred to as "Backtalk West" will also house the workspace of owner and RillRill jewelry designer Katie Freedle and apparel designer Laurs Kemp.

"I wanted to find someone who shared the same ethos and aesthetic as myself," explains Freedle of her selection of a shop- and studio-mate. "Laurs' and my studio will be in the back, where you can watch us work on collections as well as preview and purchase them directly. It's kind of a farm-to-table type approach to retail, [with] the possibility to customize/tailor items on the spot."

Freedle also notes that she'll be introducing "several slightly higher-end independent designers including Metalepsis, Stvdio Brooklyn, Lauren Winter, and Winsome" at the new location. The opening party will feature a fresh peek at the space and Kemp's latest work, as well as mixed media sculpture by Jessie Weitzel. Backtalk West, 421 SW 10th, Thurs June 4, 5-8 pm
