When you see pictures of your 90 year old great grandfather from when he was 87, does he look younger to you? Multiply those numbers by ten (and turn him green and three feet tall) and you have Yoda.
I was sad about what Lucas had done to his franchise until I read an old magazine that had an interview with him in the months before Star Wars (ep.4) came out, when rumors of its budget over-runs and studio angst over it flopping were running through Hollywood.
Lucas kept referring to it as a children's film, almost dismissively.
I think when it became huge, people accepted it as a grown-up movie, because if you saw it in 1977, you were either a stoned adult or a child.
Also, Lucas sought and retained an unprecedented amount of the profits for merchandising, because 20th Century Fox predicted there would be very little money in it. They really thought the movie would tank and let George have the lion's share of it.
So, I just accept that the Star Wars franchise is a series of children's movies designed to move toys for George Lucas and to expect any 'greatness' out of them is kind of dumb.
Shot, reverse shot, shot, reverse shot, shot, reverse shot, etc
Fixed that for you.
