(1) Portland-based perfume line Imaginary Authors has scored a major coup. Its scent Mosaic, created for downtown's Spruce Apothecary, is a finalist at this week's first-ever Art and Olfaction Awards in Los Angeles, in the "artisan" category. It may be the organization's debut awards, but they've amassed a world-class panel of judges. Authors' Josh Meyer points specifically to Luca Turin, a biophysicist and writer who specializes in the sense of smell, about whom the book The Emperor of Scent was written. In short, it's a big deal. Winners will be announced at the ceremony on Friday, April 25, but congratulations are in order for making it this far.

(2) This week also marks the spring edition of Portland Fashion Week, a three-day series of fashion shows. Basic Rights Oregon is the beneficiary of the first night, which features a rather ho-hum lineup of designs from the likes of Columbia Sportswear and UnderU4Men. (The latter, granted, always tends to be a crowd-pleaser: men in tiny underpants!) Things pick up considerably for Saturday's show, with accomplished bridal designer Sunjin Lee and new designs from fun-loving lines like Hello Eliza, Brady Lange, and Bryce Black, among others. The final night features an always-popular showcase from the Art Institute of Portland's pool of design students and graduates. Memorial Coliseum, 300 N Winning, Fri April 25-Sun April 27, for times and ticket prices

(3) The designers in this year's 10th annual Mercury Open Season series of fashion shows have been announced! In conjunction with the Museum of Contemporary Craft's exhibit Fashioning Cascadia, we are honored to be presenting new work from Alexa Stark, Crazy Wind, Mag-Big, and Portland Garment Factory's HouseLine. The event will stretch over three early evenings at three of the city's finest drinking holes, seamlessly combining your after-work happy-hour plans with the opportunity to take an intimate look at some of the truly impressive design and manufacture happening right here in your backyard. Tickets are just $5 in advance ($8 at the door)—see you there! Mon May 12-Wed May 14, for complete info and tickets
