Porochista Khakpour, Janice Lee, Leni Zumas, Cari Luna, Karen Russell
Iranian American novelist Porochista Khakpour returns with Sick, a memoir of survival chronicling her struggles with a broken medical system, which led to drug addictions, hospitalizations, and massive medical bills, before eventually ending with a diagnosis of late-stage Lyme disease. Khakpour will be joined for a panel discussion about illness and addiction by authors Janice Lee (The Sky Isn’t Blue), Cari Luna (The Revolution of Every Day), Karen Russell (Swamplandia!), and Leni Zumas (Red Clocks).

Performance

A Different Kind of Gun Show
This compilation of student-created-and-performed one-act plays and poems benefits Moms Demand Action, with each entry approaching the subject of gun violence from a different angle, and a post-show talkback to discuss the issues that inspired the art.

La Cenerentola
Portland Opera presents a staging of La Cenerentola, Gioachino Rossini's opera in two acts based on Charles Perrault's Cendrillon (Cinderella). Sung in Italian with English text projected above the stage

Drag Dangerzone Goes Broadway
The night is about to get way over the top when the Drag Dangerzone gets infused with the songwriting of Steven Sondheim, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and maybe even some choice Lin Manuel Miranda cuts. Featuring live piano by Matt Insley.

A new variety show filling the Hallowed Halls with live art and performance sharing a futuristic aesthetic, inspired by chautauquas of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Out of Sterno
The Siren hosts Rosie Rose's production of Deborah Zoe Laufer's play about a woman effectively trapped in a memory loop, a city, and a marriage for seven years, set free by a mysterious phone call from a stranger that sets her on a personal journey.

Philip's Glass Menagerie
The final piece of CoHo's Summerfest 2018 is Philip Cuomo's deconsruction of Tennessee Williams' play about the Wingfield family, using clowning, drag, silent film, and the music of Philip Glass to bring their characters to life in a way Williams likely never intended.

Mark Normand
An weekend of stand-up from the New York comedian who has appeared on Conan, Inside Amy Schumer, and Horace and Pete, was voted Village Voice's "Best Comedian of 2013," and recently starred in his own Comedy Central one-hour special, Don't Be Yourself.

The Home Builder and The Corporation
Grapefruits presents a new series of paintings, drawings and a Jacquard weaving by Cameron Hawkey, with subjects including corporations, homes, carbon dioxide, flowers, personal spaces, and more.

Blue Sky's July programming features Alia Ali's Borderland, capturing imagery of textile artisans made anonymous by wearing their works as a means to explore liminal spaces; and Hardwood, Pedro David's photographs of the commercial eucalyptus groves replacing Brazil's natural forests.
