THURSDAY, MARCH 10

MUSIC--Sort of like that fake Spring everybody's talking about, Marriage Records is blossoming with no less than six brand new records tonight, and are throwing a party to celebrate. The lovable little label's showcase will feature label kin Thanksgiving, YACHT, Mise en Abyme, and Charm Bracelet's Brad Adkins. ZP
Nocturnal, 1800 E Burnside, 8 pm, $5

NO COPS--Imagine a world in which there are no cops. Sound nice? Rose City Copwatch member and author of Our Enemies in Blue: Police and Power in America, Kristian Williams will be considering this vision with "Making Police Obsolete," a reading and signing event with book sales benefiting RCCW. MS
Vinnie's Pizza, 634 N Killingsworth, 7 pm, free

FRIDAY, MARCH 11

DICKEL BROTHERS--Not only will this show help pay the application fees for Inchmeal, an organization that hopes to establish a venue/guesthouse geared toward the arts and conservation, but features the resurrection of bluegrass favorites The Dickel Brothers, back at last. MS
w/Sunboat, Marisa Anderson; Jasmine Tree, 401 SW Harrison, 9 pm, $5-10 sliding

SATURDAY, MARCH 12

OFFICE VIOLENCE--God, don't you just hate printers? Well, now you can go all Office Space on one, courtesy of techy non-profit Free Geek--for a small donation, you can smash the shit out of a piece of Free Geek's old equipment. Your white-collar rage will subside… and your cash will help Free Geek continue to provide computers and internet to those without! EH
Free Geek Community Technology Center, 1731 SE 10th, 232-9350, Sat 1-4 pm, $2 donation per doomed printer

MUSIC--Portland gets the honor of celebrating East Berlin-born siren Nina Hagen's 50th birthday. She's back in town and ready to weird you out with song. Come enjoy her dramatic style and distinctly haunting sound. Given the hordes of admirers crowding Burnside the last time she performed at Dante's, this should be quite a show. AC
Dante's, 1 SW 3rd, 9 pm, $18

MUMBLE--I'll say it now, and we can just get it over with: Bob Dylan is overrated. That said, his shows this weekend are still some of the best tickets in town. But if you can't get in, something even more entertaining--and far, far cheaper--might work: Highway 61, a Dylan tribute band featuring Freddie Trujillo and Dr. Theopolis' Matt Cadenelli. EH
Bob Dylan at the Chiles Center, 5000 N Willamette Blvd, Fri-Sat 7:30 pm, $70-345; Highway 61 at the Doug Fir, 830 E Burnside, Fri 9 pm, $10

SUNDAY, MARCH 13

THEATER/BLOOD--He's currently writing the Broadway musical adaptations of both Shrek and Betty Boop, but don't hold that against David Lindsay-Abaire. His lesser-known plays are darkly comic gold, including A Devil Inside, a hallucinatory revenge fantasy brought to you by the extremely talented Theatre Vertigo, and promising to be the "goriest spectacle in small theatre history." Now that's a selling point! JWS
Theater! Theatre!, 3430 SE Belmont, 306-0870, Thurs-Sat 8 pm, Sun 7 pm, $15

MONDAY, MARCH 14

DJ--Sure, we know the bartenders at XV can mix up one deliciously boozy beverage, but how do they fare on the turntables? Have this question answered this evening at "Shaken Not Stirred," where the XV staff take over the DJing and play you their favorite cuts. KS
w/DJ Daz, Just Alice, Deanne Rhymes, Amoshito and DJ Jon the Destroyer; XV, 15 SW 2nd, 9 pm, free

TUESDAY, MARCH 15

MUSIC--Sort of a weirder line-up, but I'm cool with it. The relatively disparate sonics of Seattle's spaceship- clean Kinski, Brooklyn's psyche-filthy Oneida, and Vancouver B.C.'s jus' plain filthy Black Mountain are tastes that somehow all sort of make sense together. Maybe that's the taste of quality. ZP
Doug Fir Lounge, 830 E Burnside, 8 pm, $9-11

ROCKUMENTARY--Face it: After the Ramones, everyone else was simply posers. Don't believe me? End of the Century, a remarkably gritty and nuanced documentary, captures the prototype for the bittersweet punk rock tale--the Ramones' highs and lows, their boasts and their misery, and, of course, their shin-kicking punk rocking! PB
Lola's Room, 1332 W. Burnside, doors at 6 pm, screening at 7 pm, FREE!

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16

GO TEAM--You ain't, you ain't, you ain't got the goods! Tonight kicks off the state championships for dance and drill squads--four days of spirited and sequined dance numbers. A dazzle for the eyes, but bring earplugs for the shrill, high-pitched screeching of teenagers. PB
Memorial Coliseum at the Rose Quarter, 5:30 pm, $7
