Homeland Familiar
Southeast Portland sure isn't known for its art galleries, but its reputation just got a little kick in the pants with this week's opening of Homeland, a cool new space put together by Paul Middendorf of Manifest Artistry and Red 76's Paige Saez. Things get kicked off with a show featuring experimental animator/musician Zak Margolis, New Jersey to Portland painter Charles Moss, and Pacific Switchboard regular Amy Steel. Homeland, 926 SE 34th, Opening party Sept. 29, 7 pm

Panta Rhei
Take a quick break from the festivities at the Jupiter Affair to celebrate with the New American Art Union up the street, featuring this quirky little show of vibrant, space-disorienting paintings by new-to-Portland artist Arcy Douglass. New American Art Union, 922 SE Ankeny, 231-8294, opening party Fri 7-10 pm, runs through Oct. 29

Ruby & Willie
Bootsy Holler is a very good editorial photographer who spent much of 2002 documenting her grandparents' home in Richland, WA. After Ruby died in 1978, Grandpa Willie sequestered himself to the basement, while the rest of the house remained untouched like a mausoleum. Holler's portrait of Ruby & Willie's home is touching, humorous, and vibrant. Newspace, 1632 SE 10th, 963-1935, through Oct. 2
