Take a moment to visit baldursgate.com. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

Notice that countdown? It started earlier today and should end at noon tomorrow.

And what happens when it ends? I really have no idea. Neither does anyone who I’ve asked. Not industry folk, not colleagues, not people involved with the creation of the original Baldur’s Gate games.

I’ve got my fingers crossed that the end of the countdown holds the announcement of Baldur’s Gate 3, but for the next thirteen hours we’re all in the dark here.

Expect more tomorrow.

Update: The countdown has ended, and revealed Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition, a high-def remake of the classic roleplaying game destined to hit some system at some point later this year. Seriously, that’s all anyone knows. The whole thing was a huge let down.

  1. When it ends the gates of the Lower Planes will be sundered! Fiends, demodands, daemons and the Abyssal Horde will spill across Faerun! A portal will open between Toril and Oerth and the Scarlet Brotherhood will start manipulating the electrum exchange rate! A 28/30/12 F/Ma/T Tarrask will be released!

    Start planning your party now.

  2. If they include a new toolset that is easier to use than the one they released with the original, that will be worth it. Either way, I’m one of the suckers who will buy it. It’s still infinitely better than Neverwinter Nights.
