how is this possibly still an issue, our last president is a recovering coke addict, and the one before him also smoked pot, although he had a hard time getting it all the way to his lungs…
I think it’s an issue because it’s hypocritical to habitually break a law that doesn’t make sense in the first place and then, once you’re in the nation’s highest office, do nothing to overturn it (and actually threaten localized efforts to do so), when working in the opposite direction would help get us out of our economic predicament.
If it’s hypocritical when Newt does this, it’s hypocritical for Obama too, but they’re both invested only in perpetuating the same failed system.

Oh, okay then. Your statement goes against the agreed-upon conventional thinking on the subject, but thanks for dropping in. Do you think our economy was better off under prohibition in the ’20s, leaving all the profit from alcohol sales to the “informal sector”?
