Portland is the whitest major city in America. That fact can obscure the reality that there are lots of non-white communities here and, especially as you head east in the city, cultures and people from all over the world who make Portland their home.

This weekend, the Dill Pickle Club (an arts nonprofit I work with sometimes) is partnering with a couple immigrant and minority groups to lead a tour of East Portland. Spending Saturday afternoon on a bus in East Portland might not sound thrilling, but I bet it will be interesting and definitely a good kick in the pants to get yourself east of 82nd Avenue for once.

Anyway, check out their video, get tickets for the tour here if you’re interested:

  1. And what is the whitest possible sight in “the whitest major city in America”?

A busload of young white Portlanders from inner neighborhoods riding out east to view minorities in their natural habitat.

Where’s Damosa when we need him?
