UPDATE 03/18/13 3:05 pm: Ditto is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning at 9:30 am (March 19). A representative of Gossip’s record label, Columbia Records, told the Mercury that there is no comment at this time. The Portland Police Bureau’s official statement regarding the incident follows:

Officers responded to the Bungalow Bar (4205 North Mississippi Avenue) on the report of a welfare check of a woman in front of the business shouting and blocking traffic.
Officers arrived and contacted Patterson standing in the middle of the street with her arms extended from her sides like an airplane, and she was shouting (unknown what) as she blocked traffic. Four cars were stopped in the road and one driver was honking his her horn and yelling for Patterson to get out of the street.
Patterson did not respond to police commands to get out of the street so she was taken into custody without incident and transported to jail for Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.

Singer for Portland band Gossip and queer activist Beth Ditto was arrested in Portland on Friday night, outside the Bungalo Bar (formerly Casa Naranja, on N Mississippi). Ditto (legal name Mary Beth Patterson) was charged with disorderly conduct after being denied service at the bar. She walked out into the street where she attracted the attention of police officers, who took her in and booked her with the charge of second degree disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and fines up to $2500. Ditto’s booking sheet is online here. She was released later that night under her own recognizance and will have appear in court.
Eyewitnesses include another drinker at Bungalo who posted this account on Reddit (ouch) and a source at Bungalo Bar who told WWeek that after she was 86’ed, Ditto “walked out in the middle of the street, threw off her shoes and purse and screamed OBAMA! OBAMA!”

More inquiring minds want to know why an adult can’t hold her booze, and why it’s anyone’s fault but her own for getting arrested.
Reddit is not inherently evil, you guys. It’s just a forum where assholes and nice people can both post whatever they want. It counts as just as much of an eyewitness statement as any eyewitness statement — which means, yeah, take things with a grain of salt.
Either way, she got arrested, which probably meant that she WAS being an asshole when police found her, and that’s about all that matters to me.
