GOOD MORNING, BLOGTOWN! One look at you and I know that I must learn to live without the rest, I’ve found the best. LET’S GO TO PRESS.

The Portland Planning Commission gives the OK to a very controversial (and potentially dangerous) propane terminal in North Portland, which squeaked by with a 6-4 vote. Shelby R. King reports.

In case you missed it, a South Carolina police officer has been charged with murder after shooting an unarmed black man in the back at least 8 times as he was running away. (The officer also apparently tried to plant a weapon on him, and did not check the fallen man’s pulse until at least three minutes later.) The FBI is also launching their own investigation into the murder.

The family of the deceased murder victim says they will launch a civil lawsuit—but asked the public not to react with violence. We’ll see if that advice is taken as demonstrators prepare today’s rally. In the meantime, what one member of the family said about the murder is undeniably true: if the shooting had not been videotaped, the killing would’ve been swept under the rug.

For the crime of sucking up billions of Americans phone calls without a warrant, the DEA is about to find themselves on the receiving end of a very uncomfortable lawsuit.

As Indiana works furiously to mend their homophobic reputation, even Texas is realizing that discriminating against the LGBTQ community is a terrible idea.

Because stupid Christians have nothing better to do with their stupid time, they have resorted to doing extremely stupid things: Like ordering this stupid cake.

Presidential candidate Rand Paul gets mad at a reporter asking him legitimate questions, because he is a goddamn cry baby. (And yes, I’m “editorializing.”)

In Mexico, 15 police officers are murdered in a drug cartel ambush.

The world’s oldest living person has died at the ripe young age of 116—or as my good friend Ian Karmel likes to say, “gunned down in her prime.”

Who wants to watch 7 minute video of pandas mating? Yes? No? Yes?

Now here’s what’s going on in your neck of the woods: Cloudy with a touch of showers today, but dry and warm tomorrow and Friday.

And finally, here’s a little clip of Justin Bieber dressed as Ozzy Osbourne and lip-synching “Crazy Train.” I’m not sure if he looks more like Ozzy or my mother.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)
