FRIDAY, MAY 29

MUSIC—Forget all those gimmicky ’80s nights. The Rose Festival has the real deal, with three giant ’80s icons: Berlin headlines, performing unforgettable gems like “Sex (I’m a…)” and “Take My Breath Away,” plus college-rock faves the Smithereens playing fuzz-pop gems (“A Girl Like You”) and the Tubes offering their unique slant on art-punk (“White Punks on Dope”). NED LANNAMANN
Waterfront Park, 1020 SW Naito, 7:30 pm, $25-30, all ages

COMEDY—If you love sketch comedy, you can’t do better than the Aces (Shelley McLendon and Michael Fetters). Just ask Chicago’s Sketch Fest, where they were among the few Pacific Northwest acts selected to perform. Their new show promises “an hour-long massage of dynamite sketch comedy… bring your own cognac and snifter.” MEGAN BURBANK
Milagro Theatre, 525 SE Stark, Fri & Sat 8 pm, through June 13, $15-20

SATURDAY, MAY 30

JAMMY JAM—All other parties are judged against the famous Pajama Jammy Jam from the movie House Party 2 (1991). And tonight, following a screening of the first movie at the Hollywood (part of the Everything Is Fest), this iconic event will be recreated at the Star
Theater with Kid ‘n Play AND Mix Master Mike—and you in your flannel jammies. WM. STEVEN HUMPHREY
House Party at Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy, 7 pm, $12; Star Theater, 13 NW 6th, 9:30 pm, $15

COMEDY—If you were watching funnies on TV during the early ’90s, the Kids in the Hall were an inescapable influence—they crush, crush, crushed your head with pot philosophy and completely straight-faced cross-dressing back then. See if they can do it again, live. MARJORIE SKINNER
Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 SW Broadway, 8 pm, $56, all ages

PARADE—Fuck all other parades, because Portland’s annual Starlight Parade is where it’s at. There’ll be over 100 illuminated entries—like high school marching bands, the BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES, drumlines, Star Wars stormtroopers (and probably a wookiee), and floats and balloons, all of it led by the 2015 grand marshal: PEEDEE, THE PDX CARPET, the most majestic googly-eyed roll of floor covering that there ever fucking was. ERIK HENRIKSEN
Downtown Portland, see rosefestival.org for route, 8:30 pm, FREE, all ages

SUNDAY, MAY 31

TRIVIA—You’ve seen Mad Max: Fury Road, right? If not… I can’t even. But if you’ve got your knowledge of Imperator Furiosa and Immortan Joe down, and you know what the words “Doof Warrior” and “iOTA” have in common, then you might stand a chance at tonight’s round of One Team Leaves: Mad Max Quizzery! Might. MARJORIE SKINNER
East Burn, 1800 E Burnside, 6 pm, FREE

MUSIC—Remembered best as “Chip tha Ripper,” Cleveland rapper King Chip came to prominence on the now famous 2008 mixtape A Kid Named Cudi. Applying the slow “chopped and screwed” flow of the dirty south, nowadays King Chip continues to prove he’s a talented emcee bringing it hard to the stage—but always with clever humor. WM. STEVEN HUMPHREY
w/Tre Redeau, Myke Bogan, & more; Peter’s Room at Roseland, 8 NW 6th, 8 pm, $18, all ages
