Relax, Fraulein! Its almost Friday!

Congratulations, Blogtown. You’ve nearly made it through the post-holiday week! Let’s have some news!

There goes the neighborhood: A bunch of party poopers got together and bought the Sugar Shack property in NE Portland. It’s the end of an era, but those peep booths will make great tiny houses.

A Beaverton police officer was wounded and a man was killed on Wednesday during a shootout in a mobile home park. No word on whether the shooting was gang related.

Brace yourselves: We might get some actual RAIN!

I’m sorry, what? Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush thinks that people “need to work longer hours” to grow the US economy. Get after it, kids.

More political absurdity: delusional presidential wannabe Donald Trump told NBC News that, despite recent racist comments, he will win the Latino vote. “I have a great relationship with the Mexican people,” he boasted. “I have many people working for me … They love me. I love them.” Is he trolling us all?

Speaking of racism: the Washington Redskins lost their legal battle to keep their name yesterday when a federal judge canceled the team’s trademark registrations.

Things are looking up though: the South Carolina House of Representatives voted to permanently remove the Confederate flag from the top of the Statehouse.

Despite spending millions to convince people otherwise, oil giant and all around evil corporation ExxonMobile knew as early as 1981 that burning fossil fuels caused climate change. I am shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you.

Was yesterday’s shitstorm of tech failures a coincidence, guys? The New York Stock Exchange suspended trading, United Airlines grounded all flights, the Wall Street Journal’s website shut down, and a bunch of people in Washington DC temporarily lost power. Hmmmmmm.

My esteemed colleague, the Merc‘s City Hall reporter, Dirk VanderHart, brought this gem to my attention yesterday. Watch Mayor Charlie Hales be given the what-for by a mad, and now ousted, audience member during a council hearing. The good part starts at 1:57:20. Enjoy:

  1. So Shelby, I seem to recall some photo of you driving in a car with a cute puppy, a convertible perhaps?

Now, you’ve known about the harmful effects of gasoline-powered-cars for many years, correct?

So doesn’t that make you personally a HUGE HYPOCRITE for trying to call out Exxon?

    Gimme a break girl, please.

(oh wait, you have since never driven a car after finding out about the evil effects of driving on the environment, right?
    my apologies)
