GOOD MORNING, BLOGTOWN! Let’s go to press.

Oregon firefighters are holding back the many blazes plaguing the state (and causing hazy weather here), but Washington is a different story.

A man carrying a sledgehammer on the Waterfront pushes a dancer practicing there because he apparently didn’t like his moves. (I’d say carrying a sledgehammer on the Waterfront could be deemed a controversial move.)

The owner of Astoria’s Goonies house has closed it to visitors and covered the thing with a huge blue tarp… because… he doesn’t want anyone to notice it?

A Syrian scholar refuses to lead ISIS members to ancient antiquities because he knew they would destroy them… and he gets beheaded for that heroic decision.

Former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle has agreed to admit he paid to have sex with several minors. Needless to say the sandwich shop has discontinued their relationship with him. (But who gets custody of the big pants?)

Attention cheating spouses! The Ashley Madison dating site has been hacked, and whoever did it probably has a lot of your information. See you in divorce court!

Sorry, haters of women’s rights! State investigations into Planned Parenthoods’ statements on “sting” videos have shown no evidence of wrongdoing.

Today in stupid things Donald Trump said: The candidate tells Bill O’Reilly that the 14th amendment—the one that provides citizenship to anyone born or naturalized in this country—is unconstitutional.

In very sad news, Yvonne Craig—who played TV’s perky Batgirl on the Batman TV series—has passed away following a long battle with cancer. She was 78.

Now here’s what’s going on in WEATHER TOWN: Hot again today with a high of 93—but things will cool down starting tomorrow!

And finally, who wants to watch Kelly Clarkson sing some Tinder profiles? YOU DO!

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. So, Trump says a part of the constitution is unconstitutional. This is a moment of zen. Absolutely profound. When is a white horse not a horse. What is the sound of one hand clapping. When is a part of the constitution unconstitutional.

    Namaste.

  2. While I am in no way a Trump fan, and recognize the beauties that our Constitution is the oldest living document of its’ kind in the world….
This doesn’t mean some aspects of our Constitution couldn’t be refined.
This is in no way an endorsement of Trumps ideas either, but merely trying to point out that the IDEA of what America is should be fluid and ever-changing.
