Sure it’s somewhat misplaced, but this thing where someone’s slapping “no Californians” stickers on homes’ for sale signs is also perfect. Those bad boys would sell like hotcakes, though. Diversify, subversive sticker mob.
Portland-area trade unions are still so angry at Charlie Hales for pulling his support for a North Portland propane terminal that they didn’t invite them to their big annual dinner. “No biggie,” the mayor’s office says. But the unions are offering proof that Hales really wanted to go.
Whoa! The Oregonian thought up something called Nacho Week. How—HOW—did they concoct this genius plan? (I’m not actually even a little bit mad. Nachos are the best.)
Uh-oh. Looks like that chortling/frustration aimed at bigoted Kentucky hickery might have to be put on hold y’all. There’s a county judge down in Salem who’s refusing to marry same-sex couples, and marshaling financial support for that stand. Damn it, Salem.
Meanwhile, Rowan County, Kentucky clerk Kim Davis is in jail for her refusal, and same-sex couples are being married in the county!
In other news about terrible public officials, the NYT has this story about a judge in Georgia who repeatedly and insidiously jails poor defendants who can’t pay their court fees right away. It’s a pretty twisted deal, but we all know what to expect from Georgia.
Energy tax credits, a decent idea that the State of Oregon simply refuses to do well.
Police body cams are coming, Portland. The Tribune takes a look at some of the bigger philosophical, legal, and civil liberties-related questions that will come with their use.
Did any of you shuffle jubilantly, drunkenly out for Force Friday last night? I did (this will be explained later), and I met Geoffery the Giraffe (fka Dr. G. Raffe?) to boot! Lots of people drunk to the point of slurring. This was not what I expected.
And now your SHOCK OF THE DAY: Donald Trump doesn’t know much about Middle East foreign policy, and he’s indignant that people are asking him—the GOP frontrunner for President of the United States—questions about it. “You’re asking me names that — I think it’s somewhat ridiculous.”
Gonna be a fine Labor Day Weekend, Portland.

Oh damn, you’re right. It’s Karaoke Friday! This is cheesy, since it’s almost Labor Day, but it’s also the song that was in my head when I woke up this morning and it refuses to abate. Sometimes we sing to hush the voices. Like, the royal we.

Yes, Portland always values diversity, as long as that means only people who have lived here for at least 20?? years. And by “here” it we mean on the east side. Out on the west side, and by that I mean Washington County, the most diverse county in Oregon, we say, come on up, Californians.
Body cameras – hundreds of cameras owned by the State, walking the streets. We’ll soon be living in a panopticon. This is supposed to make us feel safer? No wonder it’s the only ‘reform’ that the cops have gone along with.
