Hello, Portland! I’m Ciara (no, not this one), the Mercury‘s new music editor. Above is my little cat named Dude who is both my inspiration and my muse. He’s six months old and really likes sitting on my laptop keyboard.
I’ve lived in Portland for about five years, but am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. I love this city and am particularly enthusiastic about our expanding and thriving local music scene. I am beyond stoked to be able to be taking on this position, and am grateful to now-senior editor Ned Lannamann for building up the music section and making it as stellar as it is today. I started writing for the Mercury a few months ago, and also co-run a blog and zine called Witch Haus PDX that focuses primarily on local music and art. I think music (and all art) is reflective of society, and like to engage with a lot of different genres in order to get a variety of artistic perspectives.
Other than listening to/writing about/seeing live music, I also enjoy watching spaghetti westerns and the new X-Files reboot. Nice to meet you!
