St. Johns Bizarre
Of Portland’s many spring/summertime festivals, it’s hard to find a more interesting, fun-packed one than the St. Johns Bizarre. Celebrated the second weekend in May for the past 13 years, the Bizarre is a cornucopia of entertainment, crafts, and food all centered about the annual St. Johns Parade. And while you’ll be happily stuffing your smiling face with eats from St. Johns’ finest and beyond, do not miss out on the music which includes such shockingly awesome bands as Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside, Kelli Schaeffer, Jenny Don’t and the Spurs, KILEO (with Amenta Abioto), plus tons more! Portland ScienceFEST 2019
Portland March for Science introduces a new annual event celebrating science, which, despite being responsible for something like 99.99% of all the things you love most about being alive in the world, is almost never celebrated appropriately. This one-day festival attempts to to rectify that situation, with three different interactive tracks for attendees, including interactive programming, creative workshops, coding bootcamps, and more. Hair Puller, Sheenjek, Voycheck
Fresh off the release of their acclaimed 2018 album Old Friend, Portland sludge and noise rock rippers Hair Puller head up a Friday night show at Turn! Turn! Turn! along with support from like-minded locals Sheenjek and Seattle’s Voycheck. (Fri 8 pm, Turn! Turn! Turn!, $5)

Mac DeMarco (DJ Set)
The cheerful scamp of the lo-fi jizz jazz set posts up behind the decks at Barbarella PDX for an evening of gap-toothed grins and warm vibes. (Fri 10 pm, Barbarella, $10)

Death of Glitter: Go for Baroque!
This month, the “Genderf#ck Cabaret for a Cause” benefits TransActive Gender Project with a show that aims to “fulfill all your frock coat fantasies” courtesy of performances by Helen of Boy, the Glam King, Iris & Kannon, Ida Summer Garden, and many more. Spectravagasm Benefit Concert
The freaky, drug-fueled sketch comedy series pays tribute to… itself! And also raises some funds so they can do more drugs and make more comedy and especially more music. Tonight’s Spectravagasm is all about their previous ‘gasms and the music made during them. (Fri-Sat 7 pm, Funhouse Lounge, $10)

Divers, Mr. Wrong, Dress Forms, Soft Butch

Rllrbll, Galen Ballinger, Zenitram Jr.

Smyth, Dusty the Gorilla, David MX David
Growler’s hosts a release show for local beatmaker Smyth’s latest collection of instrumentals, Compostables v.2 “Soul Food.”  Dusty the Gorilla and David MX David round out the bill. (Sat 9 pm, The Library at Growler’s Taproom, $5)

Game of Thrones Viewing Party
This is the penultimate episode of the whole damn show. You spent two years breathlessly awaiting the ending of this ode to nihilistic sadism masquerading as epic storytelling, and if the rest of this season is anything to go by, this is probably your last best chance to shamelessly indulge your howling bloodlust before this whole thing plunges off next week’s cliff and settles down next to LOST and The Walking Dead as the most consistently disappointing thing “fans” couldn’t stop watching and complaining about. My Real Portland

Pennsylvania’s Blood Sound (not that the state has a specific blood sound, but there is a band named Blood Sound from Pennsylvania) hits No Fun for a night of darkwave and synthpop frivolities. (Tues 9 pm, No Fun, $5)

Jeffrey Deaver
The acclaimed mystery/crime writer behind The Bone Collector returns with The Never Game, the first installment in a thrilling new series chronicling the adventures of master tracker Colter Shaw. (Tues 7 pm, Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing, free)

Kung Fu Theater: Blood of the Dragon
This month’s installment in Dan Halsted’s ongoing celebration of all things whoop-ass is the only known 35mm print of 1971’s Blood of the Dragon, starring bonafide legend Jimmy Wang Yu (Master of the Flying Guillotine) as a renegade master, who sticks his neck out for some rebels and finds himself under assault by the government and their squad of evil villains. Luckily, he’s got “The Spear of Death” on him, so guess what’s about to go down for the next hour and a half? Did you guess “Jimmy spears a whole bunch of dumb motherfuckers to death?” Yes, you’re absolutely correct, but knowing is not the same is seeing, and seeing is believing, and Jimmy Wang Yu will make you a believer. (Tues 7:30 pm, Hollywood Theatre, $7-9)

Faded & Underrated
Spokane and Seattle send Portland some of their hungriest emcees for an evening of Northwest hip-hop sure to get a little rowdy. (Wed 7 pm, The Big Legrowlski, $7)

Brooklyn Bust-Up
Bar 33’s monthly stand-up showcase celebrates spring, and the fact just over a third of the year has ended already (already?), with sets from local all-stars including Tyrone Collins (The Real Hyjinx), Chase Brockett, Rachelle Cochran, Alex Rios, Ben Rose, elena Hayden, and Hunter Donaldson. (Wed 8 pm, Bar 33 Brooklyn, free)

Die Like Gentlemen, Pax Romana, T.H. Ghost
If you’ve heard Die Like Gentlemen, you’re aware of the sludgy patchwork the four-piece is capable of stitching together, with an ability to find roots in both strong, heavy riffage and the wanderlust of contemporary progressive rock. It’s a potent cocktail. (Wed 8 pm, Bit House Saloon, $7)

Scarface (1932)
The original Scarface—i.e., the one no one remembers. They don’t make, like, any dorm room posters for this one. (Thurs 7:30 pm, Hollywood Theatre, $7-9)

Marriage + Cancer, Exhalants, Deephaven
Marriage + Cancer’s moody, driving noise is anchored by the paper-shredder vox of Robert Comitz (formerly of K Records band Nucular Aminals), and rounded out by a cascade of full-throttle, angular heaviness owing much to the likes of Drive Like Jehu and Jesus Lizard. (Thurs 9 pm, The World Famous Kenton Club, $5)

Yuvees, Elly Swope, Actionesse, Stanford Prism Experiment
No Fun hosts a long, loud night headlined by the paranoid absurdism of Yuvees. (9:30 pm, No Fun, $5)
