WINTER HOLIDAYS

Yalda Night
Yalda Night, also known as Chelle Night, is an ancient Persian winter solstice celebration, where folks come together to pass the longest and darkest night of the year in good company. Today, this winter tradition is observed by people from Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kurdistan, and Dagestan. Local business Nomadic Vintage Rugs is bringing Yalda Night traditions to Portland: Keep up your energy during the dark hours with dancing, music, storytelling, crafts, a henna station, and Persian snacks provided by the Oregon Afghan Halal Market.
