Hispanic Heritage Month runs from mid-September to mid-October, celebrating the cultures of Hispanic and Latino Americans. One of the best and more accessible ways to experience culture is through its cuisine, so we’ve rounded up some of our favorite Hispanic- and Latino-owned restaurants to check out this fall and all year-round. Support local businesses like Cloudforest and Mis Tacones while enjoying tasty food and drink like Ecuadorian drinking chocolate and soyrizo mulitas. For more ideas, check out our food and drink guide.

Taking inspiration from her grandmother, chef Luna Contreras plates produce-laden dishes at her fonda Mexicana. Start with small plates like mushroom and Gruyère empanadas before moving on to fresh seafood dishes like Manila clams with chorizo or chipotle shrimp and tuna cocktail. Main dishes include the restaurant’s colorful tlayudas (can be made vegan upon request with house cashew cheese) and agave-brined pork chops served with masa grits. If you’re looking for a little something lowkey, the restaurant opened a bottle and snack shop called Almacén Dámita this spring, channeling the outdoor snack shops found in Mexico. JANEY WONG
