Spotted by a vigilant reader of today’s New York Times:

An article on Saturday about Sam Adams, the mayor of Portland, who is under fire after admitting that in 2005 he had a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old intern, included a quotation from Christopher Stowell, the artistic director for the Oregon Ballet Theater, who attended a rally in support of the mayor. Mr. Stowell said that while he was upset with the mayor, he believed that instead of allowing him to resign, “I think we should force him to do the job.” After the article was published, several readers reported that Mr. Stowell and the mayor had had a romantic relationship; Mr. Stowell confirmed that they did, for a few months in 2004. If The Times had turned up the information earlier, it would have been included in the article.
And since we’re back on the dead horse, Adams’ former political consultant was quoted calling him a “fucking moron” on Time magazine’s website today.

Disappointing that the Times is perpetuating the “intern” thing, as if Breedlove worked for Sam.
I don’t know what is more dissappointing – the Times perpetuating the “intern” thing, or people like Paul Cone who are in the utmost DENIAL that Sam Mayor is a perv that needs to be removed from office. I mean, what more proof do you need that you’re on the WRONG side of things, especially when you have the national news making a mockery of how truly hard it’s been for Portland to decide that maybe we just don’t need Sam Adams.
Paul Cone “former legislative intern,” is clear enough to me. He WAS mentoring him, OH BOY WAS HE EVAR!

You guys have been scooped by Nigel again: the biggest bomb was the taped conversation when Sam Adams accused John Vezina of trying to rape Beau Breedlove.
Keep in mind that Vezina was the political delegate to the Adams camp from the Human Rights Campaign, and a board member of the Victory Fund, the gay political action committee and LARGEST DONOR TO SAM ADAMS FOR MAYOR.
To paraphrase an ol’ Texas saying: if you can’t drink their whisky, screw their boyfriends, take their money, and still vote against them in the morning, you don’t belong in Portland politics.

No contradictions here. Nope. None whatsoever.
Funny how the comments at the bottom of the NYT editorial are actually sensible, considered opinions (instead of the reactionary nonsense we have to put up with on here from a minority of very vociferous commentators) – and the majority of them aren’t saying he should quit. An outsider’s sense of perspective wins again.
