  2. The Krakow Koffee Press Release:

To honor Oregon’s birthday on Feb. 14, and the culinary contribution of the city’s Polish community ensconced in North Portland for 130 years, my Krakow Koffeehouse & Cafe is hosting our first annual “Pierogi Cooking Competition” at 12:30 pm, Saturday, Feb. 14, at our cafe at 3990 N. Interstate Avenue, the epicenter of the city’s historic Polish neighborhood.

Our competition will judge entries in three categories:

    a) Pierogi Russkie (core ingredients of cheese, cabbage and potatoes).
    b) Pierogi Kapusta (core ingredients mushrooms and a meat)
    c) A Martha Stewart pierogi. The best production of one Martha’s public recipes.

Martha Stewart, of course, born Martha Kostyra, the business magnate, publisher and TV host, is of Polish ancestry. No saws or files allowed in pierogi batter.
