Tonight’s First Thursday Happenings:

Over at the Bullseye Gallery, visitors can take in the surreal cast-glass work from artist and RIT professor Michael Rogers. Just donโ€™t touch.

Blue Sky Gallery presents two wonderful photographers, Susan S. Bank and Andy Freeberg. Bank’s work documents her time spent living among tobacco farmers in Cuba’s Pinar Del Rio Province. Andy Freeberg’s sly photographs of women assigned to guard collections in Russian art museums (see photo below) are full of gentle humor and quiet grace. Both artists will be lecturing as well.

Floating World Comics presents Pump Up the Volume and Jam: A Year in the Vortex, a book release party and art show for Vortex Comics. Artists involved collaborated on “jam comics”, and tonight Floating World presents these for the first time together in one book. Head over to the website for more info on the individual participants.

At the Elizabeth Leach Gallery itโ€™s opening night for the exhibition A Fragile Reality. Thereโ€™s also recent work by the superb painter Michael Lazarus, and a video by Ezra Johnson.

History of the Stereo Card is a presentation of stereographs, some more than 100 years old, at the 3D Center of Art and Photography. If you’ve ever wondered what real vintage porn looks like, here’s your chance.

Finally, Powell’s Books will present photographs from the artist Chris Tolomei’s nocturnal wanderings, entitled Portland At Night.

Happy art viewing, Portland.

One reply on “Get Your First Thursday On”

  1. Dear Matthew,

(a.) Put your name in the byline. It will make your posts less eye-stabby. If Molly can do it, so can you.

(b.) Never use the phrase “get you [x] on” again. It makes you look like a cretin.

    huggles,
    A CAT
