- KROGER VERSUS THE NAZI SMOG MONSTER: ILLUSTRATION BY ZACK SOTO
The Oregonian is reporting that John Minnis, a former Portland Police Bureau officer and head of the state’s Department for Safety, Standards and Trainingโthe regulating agency for cops, security guards, and rent-a-cops alikeโhas resigned in the midst of a criminal probe by Attorney General John Kroger’s office:
SALEM โ The head of the state agency responsible for training police officers, firefighters and emergency workers has resigned while under a criminal investigation by the state Attorney Generalโs Office.
John Minnis, director of the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, resigned late Monday. He asked for the resignation to become effective Jan. 1, but Gov. Ted Kulongoski asked him to step down immediately, said Anna Richter Taylor, a spokeswoman for the governor.
Rent-a-cops across Portland are understood to be preparing for a rally next week, already printing up t-shirts, reading, “I AM JOHN MINNIS.” This paragraph is a joke. The rest is true.
“There is an investigation pending but we are not going to comment further,” says Julie Rutherford with the Attorney General’s office.

found this at Jack’s Blog and couldn’t say it any better, so I’ll just do a clip ‘n’ paste for you:

“uh-oh! bad day at PoPiggyLand as this dude was most instrumental in laying the groundwork for today’s climate of “abuse of power” and “lack of accountability” for law-enforcement in this state, more especially for the PoPo. He was an infamous triple-dipper having served as officer/sgt. for PPA, then State Legislator and then on to State Senator, while sharing a bed with State’s Speaker of the Legislature Karen Minnis, and having resigned as State Senator to take over the agency he’d masterminded during his legislative tenue to provide “duck ‘n’ cover’ tactics for all the “good boys” within the little system known as “Oregon Law Enforcement”. He and his wife displayed the most exemplary of rightwing Republican lifestyles in that they ascribed to the hallmark characteristic: ‘we got ours, now f**k you, you get yours’ and as long as their toes weren’t stepped on in your getting yours, they didn’t notice you…God help you other- wise! We all need to shout from our rooftops in joy at this news”

safety is speeled incorrectly in the headline
“I AM JOHN MINNIS.”
Dammit, Matt, you stole that from my Facebook status! I want attribution! I demand satisfaction! I–I–I AM JOHN MINNIS!
Investigation for what? Seriously, can’t you give us some details? Sleeping with 12 year old boys? Shooting 12 year old girls? Ignoring the intercom while pulling out of the station? (Tax fraud for attempting to resign in 2010?)
People want to know…
It’s about time! And I’m not at all surprised. That place (DPSST) has been corrupted for years.
It’s about damn time! That place (DPSST) has been corrupted for years.
Does this mean that the DPSST will finally get management competent enough for paperwork to be processed in a timely fashion? I’ve consistently received incredibly polite and efficient service from the DMV, so I know that gov’t can do well when it wants to.
Unfortunately, it appears that Republicans take Reagan’s claim that “gov’t is the problem” as a dogma to prove, not a challenge to meet. So sad. ๐
I was abused by paramedics. They broke my leg and gave me a concussion. Now, I can not smell anything and probably never will again. All food tastes the same. I reported the abuse to Mr. Justin Hardwick at the state agency in charge of EMT’s. Just a waste of time it seemed to me. Nothing was done. I did find out, though, that Dr. Norris, The person in charge of supervising the EMT’s where I live, is also a cranberry farmer with over 600 employees and that he does not live in the area where his EMT’s work.
