That’s right. We’ve reached the summit of ridiculousness. Matt and I now both have custom-made bike bags from little local shop Black Star Bags. Mine has pockets for a laptop, reporter notebook, camera and Advil and an excellent needle-and-thread rendering of Louis Sullivan’s Jewel of the Prairie bank. Matt’s has space for his computer and camera, as well as his giant stitched initials and a wasp (because he’s a WASP, get it?!).
The bags are waterproof. They are excellent. I felt like I had to share. Next we’re going to coordinate outfits.
If you’re the kind of Portlander who gets excited about waiting eight weeks for an expertly-crafted custom messenger bag, Black Star on Alberta comes highly recommended.

I am going to mercilessly make fun of you… then I am going to steal those bags for myself.
I love it when Matt wears tight jeans and a kaffeyah.
Can that nellie Davis grow an ironic (or otherwise) moustache?
That cheeky baby face seems to say “Nay”.
I had beers with the guy who makes those bags, I think.
He doesn’t like Twitter.
I just…I can’t get past that.
A key rule for being a hipster is to deny being a hipster. Perhaps you only qualify for ‘scenester’ status.
Go, hipster news team! Although I will never grow facial hair…
@D: oooh…. SNAP! Good point. But Matt doesn’t wear enough eye-liner to be a scenester.
Matt would need to invest in A LOT of cocaine to even start being a scenester. Ask Humpy I’m sure his connect is golden.
Dan Rather just scoffed at the songs on your iPhone.
