Corin Tucker has announced the details of her new solo album, due out later this year on Kill Rock Stars. In an exclusive conversation with the Mercury (appearing in this week’s issue), the Sleater-Kinney guitarist/vocalist talks about the album’s origins, as well as the writing and recording process—which, as of this moment, sees her continuing work on the album in NE Portland. The record includes the talents of Seth Lorinczi (the Golden Bears, the Quails) handling production and arrangements, as well as playing bass, keys, percussion, and lord knows what else. Rounding out the team is Sara Lund (Hungry Ghost, Unwound) on drums. Tucker is longtime friends with both musicians and their tight collaboration is providing a new sound for Tucker’s album—which sees acoustic songs, a piano-and-vocal based number, plus heavier electric tunes that’ll be closer to her work with Sleater-Kinney.
This is one of the things I love about Portland: Rock stars get together and make records in their houses. I suppose this happens other places as well, but I like to think we sort of own it. It’ll be interesting to see what they come up with. And if Carrie and Janet wind up making cameos…
