The rain is pouring down outside, I have a slight headache, and then I saw this on the internet.

It’s a Japanese panda clutching onto a policeman’s leg in terror following last week’s earthquake. I saw this, and was suddenly and overwhelmingly consumed by grief, and said to myself, “FUCK THIS [“this” being life]. I am so fucking sick of everything!”
Then I saw something that turned everything around for me again. Watch the glass door.

You are a cruel and unusual internet, Internet. But I think I’ll keep you around.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. Panda photo pre-dates earthquake, apparently by like five years, so Twitter tells me. I found it used in August 2010 and stopped looking for the source.

  2. I think you guys are missing the point of this post. IT’S A SAD PANDA, GUYS!!! And a sad panda can only exist in a sad world! Now you can do all the twitter research you want, but if you’re ignoring the basic message a sad panda—ANY sad panda, that’s sad for ANY reason—is trying to deliver, then you are merely deceiving yourself and ignoring the truth about this sad, sad world. When you finally DO decide to own up to the truth, and see this sad world for the sad world it really is, watch the video in this post again. It will cheer you up.

  3. But it’s not a sad Panda, Wm.™ As you can see from the link MrFabulous posted, the panda is, in actuality, trying to eat the zookeeper.

  4. Steve –After the last two posts and your closed office drapes, I think you are still distracted by you junk eating pony. Eventually you will have to return it since they are still looking for it.
