Comic Book Resources is reporting layoffs at local publisher Dark Horse Comics:
CBR News learned today that Dark Horse Comics has laid off a number of staffers including people from their editorial and sales departments.
Believed to be included in the layoffs (though not the sum total of persons leaving the company) are editors Shawna Gore and Dave Land as well as sales assistant Max Sato. Reached by phone, a representative for Dark Horse declined to comment.
April, of course, is Comic Book Month in Portland—the Stumptown Comics Fest is in four days. There’s never a good time to get canned, but man, that timing’s gotta sting. Print-media condolences to all those affected.

Oh, and, having witness a slew of layoffs at comic book companies within the last few months, I do not find it a coincidence that Borders filed bankruptcy and left a lot of bills unpaid, and now a lot of comic book companies are hurting.
Dead media is dying. Sucks for anyone to lose their job, but so did the whalebone corseters and moonshiners. The handwriting has been on the wall since 1994.

I love comics. I do not want them to fall by the waistline.

Aside from being local,and aside from being a standard bearer for creator owned comics, and aside from the fact that quality matters to them…aside from all of those things, they’re still the best.
