What are these “DVDs” you speak of?
At $7.99, you’re basically breaking even at two movies a month compared to renting them a la carte so the choice is pretty simple. If you watch two or less movies a month, buy a Roku or AppleTV or something and if you watch more then Netflix is still a great value. Same goes for DVDs, you just need to factor in the convenience of having them come to you (and Netflix’s amazing support of independent film). Or you can just stop being a cheap bastard and pay the cost of three beers a month for a technology that has revolutionized the way we watch movies.
@MeadowlarkLemon – How do you figure? One movie rental is $1 outside of any grocery store or McDonalds. That’s break-even at 8 movies a month. Which is kind of a lot!
The library has a pretty good DVD collection, although for anything good, you have to put it on hold and wait a while.
Doesn’t affect me. We gave up our DVD service a while ago and never missed it. Instant stays the same price. And fuck the library for DVDs. Wait months to get what you want and then its too scratched to play.
I like burritos.
I’d pay twice as much for streaming of they’d add more newer (and I’m not even talking just released, but like last 24 months!) releases to what’s available…
It will save me money, as it’s forcing me to abandon the notion that use the disc service at all.
How about the option- “I watch streaming movies for free using torrents and other illegal means”
I’ve been using the library for dvds for years, and only twice, have I received un-watchable, scratched dvds.
