There’s been a teaser or two already, but here’s the full trailer for The Social Network, AKA “that Facebook movie,” which is written by your parents’ favorite TV writer, Aaron Sorkin, and directed by David Fincher, who’s a total badass whenever he isn’t making anything that has the words “Benjamin” or “Button” in the title. Even though Trent Reznor’s doing The Social Network‘s score, this trailer plays to a choral version of Radiohead’s “Creep,” which is fitting, since it’s about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (played by Jesse Eisenberg), who everyone more or less unanimously agrees is a total creep. The film also features the Red Riding trilogy’s Andrew Garfield (AKA “the new Spider-Man”), Joseph Mazzello (AKA “that kid who got sneezed on by a brachiosaur in Jurassic Park*), and Rashida Jones, who you might know from The Office, Parks and Recreation, and that awesome dream I had last night.

It’s a very good trailer, and even though Benjamin Button blew, I’m willing to give Fincher the benefit of the doubt—if anyone can make a movie about Facebook entertaining, it’s gonna be him. Now it’s only a matter of time until the sequel, 140 Characters, which should probably star Justin Bieber as Jack Dorsey. It should also have a runtime of no longer than two minutes, and it should be scored entirely with a choral version of Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping.”

  1. I can’t see this being anything other than a larger-than-life advertisement for Mark Zuckerberg. How much you want to bet the whole “you lose friends” blah blah set to a sad hack Reznor song is a plot point for sympathy & admiration – what it really wants you to think is, wow pathic and boring. Reznor’s music sucks.

  2. Remember, Eric?? “It’s a UNIX System. I know this!”

    Goddamn I love that movie.

That was a pretty sweet fucking trailer (a lot of good trailers lately!). In actuality though, it looks exactly like the cliche-ridden “21.” Super-smart & innocent kid gets caught up in some shit that’s over his head. His ego gets the better of him. Turns out most of his peers are money-hungry assholes who throw him under the bus. And instead of just outsmarting them (he has to do that, too) he must learn to love himself and the hot chick to overcome the bad guys.

It would be awesome if Fincher flipped it and portrayed the “Mark” character as what he really is — a huge douche nozzle. He did make Alien 3 after all, so IMO he’s pretty unpredictable.

And how did you post this on Blogtown without mentioning Justin Timberlake? Is he not cool anymore??!! Fuck.
