As you may have heard, Tim Russert, the longtime host of Meet the Press died of a massive coronary on Friday. One of the great interviewer/reporters, Russert always did a kickass job regardless of who was sitting in the seat opposite, and he will be missed.

Yesterday’s edition of Meet the Press (hosted by Tom Brokaw) was devoted to Russert’s legacy, and is pretty moving stuff. CHECK OUT THE ENTIRE EPISODE HERE. No time today? Check out this quick recap here.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)

  1. i’m never pleased at someone’s death, but russert was just another “unbiased” journalist who showed it by trashing democrats and giving republicans a free pass.

no, i don’t think i will remember him.

  2. it is pretty well known that tim russert was a true blue democrat from a working class family in upstate new york who began his life in politic as an aide to sen. patrick moynahan (D-NY). can you provide any specific incidents to back up your statement, or can’t you remember those either?

  3. “I suggested we put the vice president on ‘Meet the Press,’ which was a tactic we often used. It’s our best format,” as it allows us to “control the message” —

Cheney media aide Cathie Martin, under oath at the Libby trial, making clear how well Russert fulfills his function.

  4. That’s absurd. Did you even watch the Cheney interview with Russert?

I think it’s a truism that Democrats think the media trash Democrats, and Republicans think the media trash Republicans.

Now, I certainly think there are some (lots!) of journalists that lean hard in one direction or the other… but Russert was hard on everyone, and always in a fair way.
