Last Thursday I was cruising by the Eagles Lodge on SE Hawthorne after a float at Float On (thank you MercPerks), when I spotted Chris Haberman starting his early morning work on the new mural wrapping around the outside of the aerie. Haberman's a prolific artist about town and curator of the Peoples Art of Portland gallery. If you've been to the Goodfoot, you've probably seen his work. Well, he has a grant from the Regional Arts & Culture Council and two weeks to finish the mural that takes up two sides of the expansive building. He's done a shit-ton of research on the history of SE Hawthorne and incorporated it into this jam-packed mural that will have a bazillion faces in it, the likes of which include Ronald Reagan, Billy Ray Cyrus, and bunch of Portlanders. There's a big party planned for the completion of the mural in the Eagles Lodge parking lot on the afternoon of Saturday, July 7, with bands, beer, BBQ, and pirates. But go take a look now while the mural's in progress!

Chris Haberman didnt have his painting of the mural with him, but he was packing a detailed sketch of what it will look like.

A couple more shots after the jump.

Look into the sun, Chris!
