Tonight, local comics artist and author of My Boyfriend Walt Whitman and The Wookie Woof Book Menorah Horwitz presents her new fictitious history, published by Floating World Comics, about the Miss U.S. of Heya beauty pageant competition in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
Told through a series of unique portrait images that could in no way exist in real life, Miss U.S. of Heya remembers past pageant notables like Bonnibelle Braithwaight, wearing a stole of taxidermied baby pigs, or Catherine Cullote, who won the competition for “refusing to answer the panel's questions, instead dwelling on the past while towel-drying her hair.”
As homework for this comic, I would suggest the documentary film Paris is Burning about '80s New York drag ballroom culture and/or an evening at Darcelle XV Showplace, tipping liberally.
