- Michelle Grabner will curate the Portland 2016 Biennial of Contemporary Art.
Contemporary arts space Disjecta announced today that Michelle Grabner will be serving as curator for the Portland 2016 Biennial of Contemporary Art. Grabner’s got a hefty resume—she co-curated the 2014 Whitney Biennial and was a senior art critic at Yale from 2012-14. She’s also served on the faculty of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for many years (Disclosure: That’s where I received my ~*deeply controversial*~ MFA). Grabner’s also a bit of a generalist—she’s worked in painting, drawing, sculpture, video, and writing, and her projects are heavily interdisciplinary, commenting on everything from formal to feminist concerns. This is always good to see for such a wide-ranging survey of local art (Portland 2016 runs for no fewer than THREE MONTHS).
I mean, don’t get too excited, though. The biennial doesn’t actually happen until July-September of 2016. Such is the nature of biennials. Ugh.
In the long meantime, you can see a whole slew of her projects here.
