One man has died after being shot by Portland police officers in downtown Portland early this morning.
According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), the man was allegedly firing a gun downtown before the police shot and killed him near SW 3rd and SW Harvey Milk (formerly SW Stark) around 4 am. A gun, presumably belonging to him, was retrieved at the scene.
The officers involved were unharmed, and have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Multnomah County District Attorney's office investigates the case and presents evidence to a grand jury.
Members of the public gathered at the downtown Portland intersection early this morning to protest the shooting. While the family nor PPB has not yet confirmed the identity of the deceased man with the Mercury, some protesters have begun sharing his alleged identity on social media.
