Five years ago, Matt Trenkle and Garrett Flynn operated a fresh juice and smoothie cart called Greenleaf Juicing Company in the southeast corner of the Plaid Pantry parking lot on NW 23rd.
The cart is gone—as is the Plaid Pantry—but that’s because Trenkle and Flynn went brick-and-mortar with Greenleaf, opening a spot in the Pearl across from 24 Hour Fitness.
Yesterday, there were five Greenleafs in all—including a lone outpost in Indianapolis—but as of today, there are six, as Trenkle and Flynn have opened a new location at 1510 NW 22nd, making it their second permanent home in the neighborhood that birthed them.
According to Greenleaf co-owner Chris Mann, the new Greenleaf’s menu will mirror that of its brother and sister shops, so plan on 18 varieties of fresh juice flavors with occasional dad-jokey names—Beet It, Sweet Carrotlime—mostly uncaffeinated lattes, acai, oatmeal, chia, and quinoa bowls, granola cups, soups, and a line of smoothies and almond milk-buttressed super smoothies, all of which are 100 percent organic.
The shop, Mann says, is designed to be more of a grab-and-go place—hence the limited seating that maxes out at six—but he says that on warm days like this, there’s plenty of outdoor seating for people who want to linger with their drinks and snacks.
