Pickathon kicked off its 21st year tonight with a lineup announcement party at Revolution Hall that included performances from Black Belt Eagle Scout (whose debut LP Mother of My Children was one of Portland's best albums of 2018), Eric Johnson of Fruit Bats, and Laura Veirs, who will all play at this year's festival August 2-4 at Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley.
Big names on the lineup include Lucius, Mountain Man, and Damien Jurado. I'm most excited for Mount Moriah frontwoman/Angel Olsen collaborator H.C. McEntire, whose album Lionheart was one of my favorites from last year; New Zealand indie rockers the Beths; country singer Courtney Marie Andrews, who played Pickathon in 2017; Eugene doom metal band Yob, who practically blew my eardrums out at last year's Sabertooth Micro Fest (and I loved it); singer/violinist Sudan Archives' looping electronic folk; and Washington, DC, rock band Flasher. Tickets are on sale now—see ya at the farm!
