Stumptown, by Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth, via Oni Press

A gritty-but-fun noir comic with sharp writing and gorgeous art, writer Greg Rucka and artist Matthew Southworth's Stumptown is getting turned into a series for ABC, starring The Avengers' Cobie Smulders. Now we've got our first look at the show, via a trailer from Slate. It's a good trailer!

If you're looking to catch up before the premiere—or just looking to be that person who never stops annoying everyone else by insisting the book was better—the collected editions are available from Portland's Oni Press, which, over the past week or so, has been getting some not-so-great attention from some members of the comics community due to layoffs following a recent merger with St. Louis' Lion Forge Comics.

At least on the page, Stumptown's consistently fun, fast, and twisty. Here's hoping ABC's version manages to capture the clever, cloudy vision of Portland that sets the book apart. We'll have more on the show once it gets closer to airing.
