The man who allegedly discharged his firearm in the baggage claim area of Portland International Airport Friday has been identified as 31-year-old DeShawn Seamster.

Seamster is accused of firing a weapon around 5:30 am Friday after getting into a scuffle with a Port of Portland police officer. Both he and the officer sustained injuries from the encounter. The officer’s injuries were determined to be unrelated to the firearm going off. It’s still unclear whether or not Seamster was injured by his own gun.

Seamster faces eight charges for resisting arrest, firing a weapon, assaulting a police officer, interfering with a police officer, criminal trespassing, criminal trespassing with a firearm, disorderly conduct, and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Seamster, who court documents identify as homeless, has a lengthly criminal record for various burglary, harassment, and cocaine possession charges.

He remains in Mutlnomah County Detention Center with a total bail of $26,500.
