UPDATE: Among other topics, Gov. Brown announced that school will be out for the rest of the school year. GET MORE DETAILS HERE.

Today at 1 pm, Gov. Kate Brown of Oregon is scheduled to speak to the press on the topic of education during the COVID-19 crisis. As all Oregon parents know, schooling for our children came to a screeching halt when social distancing orders were put in place. Portland Public Schools has been working to get online learning started for students (they expect it to roll it out in the coming week) while offering loaner tablets to kids who may not have online access.

Expect more on this important topic from Brown today, who will be joined by Oregon Department of Education Director Colt Gill and Chief Medical Officer for the Oregon Health Authority Dr. Dana Hargunani.

Bang bang, choo-choo train, let me see you shake that thang. Wm. Steven Humphrey is the editor-in-chief of the Portland Mercury and has held the job since 2000. (So don’t get any funny ideas.)
