After a rocky pandemic year, the Portland Art Museum (PAM) is reopening with a vengeance.
The museum reopened to limited-capacity visitors last week—and today, PAM shared new details on a stacked lineup of programs and exhibits from now through the the first half of 2022.
On May 5, the museum will open Ansel Adams in Our Time, an exhibit that "not only celebrates the famous landscape photographer but also offers new perspectives from a diverse range of photographers who worked before, alongside, and after him," per a press release.
Other upcoming marquee exhibits at PAM include:
• Queen Nefertari: Eternal Egypt, a celebration of "the roles women of— goddesses, queens, and commoners," opens October 16.
• Private Lives: Home and Family in the Art of the Nabis, 1889–1900, centering the work of four members of the "Nabi Brotherhood" in 19th century Paris, opens October 23.
• You'll want to get your museum selfie game on-point for Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Mexican Modernism, opening February 19, 2022. PAM is promising to "feature many of Kahlo’s most famous self-portraits and rarely seen oil paintings by Rivera, as well as works by other icons of Mexican modernism."
• In addition to these fine art exhibits, you can plan for another drive-in movie summer this year, thanks to Film Northwest's Cinema Unbound Drive-In+, running from June 10 through September 26 at a to-be-announced location. This summer's lineup will be full of "stories centering women, BIPOC and queer voices."
This list is by no means exhaustive of all the stuff you can check out at PAM these days and in the near future. Other current and upcoming exhibits include an exploration of Japanese women printmakers; a collection of portraits from the Pacific Northwest; a collaborative dance performance from a Portland-based choreographer; and a showcase of emerging Native American artists.
