Happy #YesMenLoveCatsMonday, everyone! By now, you've surely heard that Portland has its own cat rapper*, Moshow. If you haven't, I wish I were you, because your Monday is about to get so much better. Here's the KGW video that finally got the other news outlets in town turned onto the hot new trend that is the cat news beat. I thank you!
Today, you can adopt a cat from Multnomah County Animal Services for only $14. It's part of their seasonal Home for the Holidays initiative, which aims to find forever homes for animals six months and older during the month of December by matching adoption fees to the day's date. You'll also be doing your part to help keep our city's cat-people crown from being stolen by our envious neighbor, Seattle. That's two good deeds! I'm failing to see a downside here.
Charles Bukowski's On Cats is finally here! Fun fact: I used to find Bukowski insufferable, and I still consider mentioning Bukowski in idolatrous tones to be a serious red flag among a certain subset of Literary Bro. It's kind of like William S. Burroughs fans who somehow have never found out that Burroughs, you know, SHOT HIS WIFE ONE TIME? ANYWAY. I used to find Bukowski insufferable until I read his poem, "The History of One Tough Motherfucker," which is all about how much he loves his cat, because his cat is such a survivor and Bukowski really identifies with him. It's a sweet piece of writing by a not-very-sweet person. Maybe On Cats will be too!
Last week, I wrote a post stating that Portland's cats are the most photogenic. Since then, we've received confirmation in the form of numerous photos of Portland cat people's best buds. Here's a really cute one, from Emily Walter, who says via Facebook, "I may be in Seattle but my bby Thomas lives in Portland. Siding with my hometown on this one." Happy Monday!
